Roots in the Clouds

"It is the search for roots and dreams, showing that they are not confined to just one ground but are fluid, present in nostalgia and in quests. Taking root also resides in encounters with people, not necessarily in encounters with places!"

Luciana Viana

There are songs that are like seeds. They sprout poetry, hope, and musicality in the fertile soil of each listener's emotions. The harvest, transcending, guarantees a crop of notes, melodies, and compositions of pure enchantment. In the case of the duo Luciana Viana and Eddy Andrade, the result of this creative harvest comes in the form of the original Brazilian modern songs album named "Roots in the Clouds."

Under the direction of the renowned pianist André Mehmari, the album "Roots in the Clouds" consists of songs signed by the inspiration of Luciana Viana, in collaboration with two other composers: Daiane Correa and Eddy Andrade himself, who is responsible for all the arrangements. In addition to these, there is a re-recording of a classic of country music: "Tristeza do Jeca" by Angelino de Oliveira.

Among the original songs, the duo treats the listeners to "Mercúrio" (toada), "Palavra saudade" (ijexá/baião), "O que a vida quer da gente" (improvisation with a classical/romantic twist), "Coragem" (chamamé), "Jussara" (toada), "Ybyrá" (indefinite musical genre), "Poeira-saudade-poeira" (baião), "Margem" (maracatu), "Depois desse Rio" (bossa nova), and "Rastro de nuvem" (Minas Gerais rock).

Recorded in Campinas and São Paulo, the duo's album, featuring the core band formed by Cecília Collaço (drums), Gabriel Peregrino (percussion and vocals), and Henrique Simas (acoustic and electric bass), also includes special appearances by André Mehmari (piano, synthesizers, and marimba), Teco Cardoso (flutes and saxophone), Carol Panesi (violin), Edu Guimarães (accordion), Domingos de Salvi (viola caipira), Lucas Andrade (guitar), Klesley Brandão (flugelhorn), as well as singers Ana Lis Marum and Luisa Meirelles (vocals).

"This collaboration represents a very productive, friendly partnership with significant exchanges, resulting in an album that brings forth highly original modern songs that reference and pay homage to origins, roots, and traditions," notes André. It is no coincidence that "the highlight of the project lies precisely in the strength of this collective encounter."
